State commissioner asks not to be reappointed

Posted online
A commissioner of the Missouri Public Service Commission has announced he will not seek reappointment past his current term.

Commissioner Terry Jarrett has asked not to be reappointed once his term ends Sept. 11. He was first appointed to the commission on Sep. 11, 2007, by then Gov. Matt Blunt, according to a news release.

The PSC regulates investor-owned electric, steam, natural gas, water and sewer, and telephone companies under the leadership of five commissioners appointed by the governor.

“I have informed Gov. [Jay] Nixon of my decision, but I expressed to him that I would be willing to serve past the end of my term until my successor is appointed if needed,” Jarrett said in the release. "I want to specifically thank former Gov. Blunt for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of Missouri at the Public Service Commission.

"During the six years that I have been a commissioner, we have tackled challenging issues, and I am proud to have worked alongside many dedicated professionals and my fellow commissioners to ensure that Missouri consumers receive safe, adequate and reliable utility services at just and reasonable rates.”

Prior to his appointment to the PSC, Jarrett had served as Blunt's general counsel.

Currently, the PSC has four commissioners and one vacancy, according to PSC.Mo.gov.
