The collections are made through the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations’ Division of Employment Security.
From Missouri employers, the division in November collected $3.9 million in unemployment insurance delinquent taxes, penalties and interest. Penalties are imposed if a deadline is missed, and interest accrues on unpaid contributions.
The division also collected $839,352 in restitution for overpaid benefits and penalties from claimants. The most common reasons for improper payment are the collection of unemployment insurance benefits after returning to work, and concealing information on the weekly claim that would have made them ineligible.
To report potential unemployment insurance fraud, contact the division at (573) 751-3215.[[In-content Ad]]
