State chases unpaid fees from Springfield dry cleaner

Posted online
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has referred 11 businesses - including one in Springfield - to the state Attorney General's Office for failing to pay hazardous waste-related fees from fiscal 2008, DNR announced last week.

Lloyds Cleaners, a dry cleaning company with three locations in Springfield, is among the 11 companies sent to the AG's office for potential legal action.

Missouri's Hazardous Waste Management law requires businesses that generate, handle or dispose of hazardous waste in Missouri to pay fees for registration and disposal. Those fees help DNR's Hazardous Waste Program, which protects the state's citizens from threats posed by hazardous materials, according to a DNR news release.

The funds are used both to track businesses that deal with hazardous waste and clean up potential spills or contamination.

DNR is asking the attorney general to seek the amount that is due in outstanding fees, according to the release.

Other referred Missouri companies are located in Atlanta, Kansas City, O'Fallon, St. Louis, Lamar, St. Joseph, Pevely and High Ridge.[[In-content Ad]]
