State awards $437K loan to Everton

Posted online

The city of Everton is set to receive state financial assistance to improve its drinking water infrastructure.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $437,000 no-interest loan to Everton, according to a news release. Everton is nearly 30 miles northwest of Springfield.

The funding goes toward Everton's ongoing drinking water improvement project, which is expected to total $1.8 million. Construction is starting this year, officials say.

“The financial assistance packages we offer can make all the difference in being able to provide safe drinking water to Missourians, support communities and ensure their infrastructure projects are successful and affordable,” said Kurt Schaefer, director of the Department of Natural Resources, in the release.

The loan through the department's Planning and Design Loan Program will go toward early engineering and administrative costs. DNR officials say they are working with Everton city officials on a larger funding package for the drinking water project.

The release indicates the loan has a five-year term and will save city ratepayers some $78,400 in interest.
