State awards $2.6M to city of Miller

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources awarded nearly $2.6 million to the city of Miller for wastewater and collection system improvements.

The project in the city 33 miles west of Springfield has a total cost estimate of $3.3 million, according to a news release. It's slated for completion by August 2022. Additional funding is coming from the state’s Department of Economic Development.

“One of our priorities is helping Missouri communities maintain and improve their water and wastewater treatment systems,” Gov. Mike Parson said in the release. “One way we do that is by making sure there is a variety [of] financial programs available and working closely with each community to tailor the assistance to meet its unique needs."

The project involves improvements to the city's wastewater treatment facility to meet permit requirements, upgrades to the collection system and elimination of sanitary sewer overflows.

The state's funding is expected to save the city's ratepayers an estimated $1.5 million in principal and $326,000 in interest over the course of a 30-year loan term, according to the release.
