State attorney general's Medicaid fraud unit ranks in top 10

Posted online
The Missouri attorney general's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is ranked among the top 10 in the U.S. by the federal Department of Health and Human Services.

Missouri was ninth in total recoveries, with more than $47 million in 2013, according to a news release.

Citing the federal report, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster said the state also ranked sixth in dollars recovered per unit employee, with nearly $2.4 million recovered for each of the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit's 20 employees. It also was fifth in total number of civil settlements and judgments, he said.

“Efficiency of government is critical, particularly during these challenging economic times," Koster said in the release. "This report validates the hard work of our Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in recovering funds from those who steal from Missouri taxpayers.”
