Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster has signed on to keynote the Ozarks Technical Community College graduation ceremony scheduled May 15.
During the 6 p.m. ceremony at JQH Arena, the school will dole out more than 2,000 certificates and degrees to graduates, according to a news release.
"Attorney General Koster has been a supporter of public higher education throughout his career as an elected official,” said OTC Chancellor Hal Higdon, of the state official's selection as speaker, in the release.
One such occurrence came in early 2012, when Koster joined with other attorneys general nationwide to collect more than $196 million for Missouri and its taxpayers from a settlement with Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Ally Financial. Koster directed over $40 million to the state's general revenue fund, which Gov. Jay Nixon targeted toward higher education institutions, according to
Springfield Business Journal archives.
The ceremony will honor students who have completed course work from summer 2013 through the spring semester. It includes 91 high school students, via the OTC Career Center, earning 32 hours of college credit.
OTC also will honor the late Sgt. Joseph Peters, the recipient of the college’s 2014 Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award. Peters was killed in Afghanistan by injuries sustained in a series of blasts from suicide bombs and explosive devices. His father, Dennis, OTC's veteran service representative, will accept the award on his son's behalf, according to the release.[[In-content Ad]]
