The Missouri Association of School Administrators last week named John Jungmann Superintendent of the Year.

The Springfield Public Schools superintendent was recognized during MASA’s annual fall conference Sept. 29-Oct. 2 in Osage Beach, according to a news release.

"John Jungmann is one of the go-to educational leaders both in Missouri and beyond,” MASA Executive Director Roger Kurtz said in the release. “Jungmann is committed to providing outstanding educational opportunities for the students of his district, and he has made a priority of effectively collaborating with staff, parents and community members to assure high-quality education for all students."

MASA cited Jungmann’s efforts to identify gaps for the district’s 25,000 students, leading to engagement with stakeholder groups and partnerships on community engagement projects. He’s worked as a leader for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s Greater Ozarks Centers for Advanced Professional Studies; introduced SPS to Ignite, giving teachers needed resources to provide a personalized learning environment; and rolled out a three-year technology initiative for some 30,000 tablets to students. He’s also working to make schools in the 4,000-employee district more child-centric with collaborative and comfortable spaces.

In March, Jungmann will be recognized during the American Association of School Administrators National Conference on Education in New Orleans for his state election and will be considered for National Superintendent of the Year, according to the release.
