Prepaid legal services plans provide access to legal services from firms or individuals, often for discounted fees.
Under Missouri law, individuals who want to sell prepaid legal services are required to obtain a license, but until now, a specific prepaid legal services line examination did not exist.
Instead, people took a somewhat unrelated casualty line exam that tested beyond the scope of knowledge needed to sell prepaid legal services.
“In order for this department to uphold minimum knowledge and professional standards for Missouri insurance producers, we must administer exams that test a person’s understanding of relevant products,” DIFP Director Doug Ommen said in a news release. “Individuals who pass this new examination will be more qualified to sell prepaid legal services products.”
Exams can be scheduled through Pearson Vue, the department’s exam vendor, by calling (866) 274-4740, or visiting www.pearsonvue.com. People selling or wishing to sell prepaid legal plans are encouraged to take the exam as soon as possible.
