Starbucks workers get pay bump, new coffee, tattoo leeway

Posted online
Things are coming up golden for long suffering Starbucks Corp. (Nasdaq: SBUX) employees who got myriad job improvements in one day.

Starting in January, all baristas and managers will get a raise as part of Starbucks’ plan to double its food business in the next five years, according to a Bloomberg report.

Free food also is on the docket. Cafe workers will be entitled to one free food item per shift and all workers will get first dibs on the first harvest from Hacienda Alsacia, the Costa Rican farm the Seattle-based company bought last year.

The company also is loosening its dress code, allowing colored ties and scarves as well as black denim and visible tattoos.

According to Bloomberg, the company’s updated dress code now reads: “Tattoos are allowed, but not on your face or throat. Treat tattoos as you treat speech - you can’t swear, make hateful comments or lewd jokes in the workplace, neither can your tattoos.”
