Starbucks plans to close 8,000 company-owned stores during the afternoon of May 29.
The 175,000 workers at the U.S. stores will undergo racial bias training.
The move follows the arrest last week of two black men who were waiting for a friend at a Philadelphia Starbucks. The store manager reportedly called the police.
