Joining the likes of Chipotle, Cheesecake Factory, KFC, Taco Bell and Olive Garden, Starbucks announced yesterday it would begin donating all of its leftover food to the hungry.
In a year’s time, Starbucks plans to contribute its excess food from its over 7,000 U.S. shops to Feeding America, which runs a national network of food banks.
CNNMoney reports the idea came from baristas.
"Our people just felt so badly. And this has been going on for quite some time. And so we started doing our homework - municipality by municipality," Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz said.
The initiative adds on to donations already made by Starbucks. Since 2010, the company has donated its unsold pastries to a food collection service.
