Starbucks sales disappoint

Starbucks Corp. yesterday reported smaller-than-expected quarterly sales at established restaurants in its Americas region.

Sales in the region increase by 3 percent for the company's fiscal first quarter ended Jan. 1. Analysts were looking for a 3.9 percent rise.

Revenue in the quarter of $5.7 billion also was shy of the $5.8 billion average target expected by analysts.
