In an Oct. 29 ceremony at the Library Center, 4653 S. Campbell, William H. Bray-man, at the podium, was officially installed as Springfield's 33rd postmaster. Seated is Anna Meek, the Postal Service's supervisor of customer service in Springfield, and John E. Kelley, president of the local branch of the National Association of Postal Supervisors. Brayman began his postal career in 1980 and he has served as Springfield's postmaster since July. During the installation ceremony, Ormer Rogers Jr., the manager of sales and services for the Postal Service's Mid-America District, administered the oath of office to Brayman, as Brayman's wife, Kim, stood at his side. Springfield City Councilman Ralph Manley spoke. Brayman spoke briefly, and referred to the added risks Postal Service workers face today as a result of the Sept. 11 terrorism and subsequent anthrax scares. But, Brayman said, it's important that people continue to use the mail as a mode of communication because "mail touches the heart and soul of people unlike any other medium."
