Longtime St. Louis Zoo President and CEO Jeffrey Bonner announced he would retire at year's end.
The zoo's leader for 19 years, Bonner, 67, said he would be available on a consulting basis for the next few years. An international search for his successor has been launched by the St. Louis Zoological Park Subdistrict Commission.
During his tenure, Bonner led the zoo to raise $150 million for attractions such as Sea Lion Sound and renovated habitats for elephants and bears.
