St. Louis tops list of best startup cities

St. Louis was named the No. 1 best city for startup businesses in the U.S. by Popular Mechanics, which recently ranked “The 14 Best Startup Cities in America.”

The city was praised for its support network for entrepreneurs, which includes the T-Rex business incubator and the nonprofit Arch Grants, which has awarded $3.1 million in grants to 55 startups since 2011.

St. Louis bested Asheville, N.C., and Oakland, Calif., for the top spot. In the region, Des Moines, Iowa, No. 9, and Urbana, Ill., No. 11, also were on the list.
