St. Louis Symphony narrows operating deficit

St. Louis Symphony officials said this week the nonprofit organization's fiscal 2014 operating deficit was $2.2 million, down from $2.6 million a year ago, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

According to the symphony, operating revenue this year was $26.1 million against expenses of $28.3 million.

The fiscal year deficit, ending Aug. 31, is the smallest in the past 14 years, but the symphony carries no accumulated deficits from previous years, the business journal reports. Symphony officials said the current deficit is being funded by special donor contributions.
