St. Louis judge blocks city's minimum wage

Posted online
A St. Louis Circuit Court judge on Wednesday blocked the implementation of the city’s minimum wage law hours before it was set to take effect.

Signed Aug. 28 by St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, the law would have created an $8.25 per hour minimum wage starting today. It would have risen incrementally to $11 per hour on Jan. 1, 2018.

In his ruling, Judge Steven Ohmer said the ordinance "is not in conformity with the laws of Missouri."

City Council member Winston Calvert said the city would appeal the ruling.
