The St. Louis County Council extended its search for a new auditor after the finalist for the job declined it.
The candidate, a certified public accountant with federal government experience, turned down $110,000 in pay and said the minimum seven years required to qualify for pension was too long, said Councilperson Mark Harder. The finalist's name was not released.
The county is searching for a successor to embattled Auditor Mark Tucker, who has been accused of not having proper experience for the job.
