Posted online

St. Louis-based SkyStar Wheel delivered a Holland-built Ferris wheel to Louisville, Kentucky, this past month. The Kentucky Derby is the first stop, and organizers plan to take the wheel to Norfolk, Virginia, when it leaves Louisville on May 16.

The $7 million SkyStar Observation Wheel has 36 gondolas and stands 140 feet high; the average Ferris Wheel is 90 feet tall, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

A crew of 14 employees sets up the wheel in a few days, and a 10-person staff manages the SkyStar ticket booth and ride after that. The fall and winter destinations are unknown.
