St. Louis-area wages move up as unemployment falls

Wages in the St. Louis area have been on the rise as the unemployment rate there continues to fall.

Unemployment in the St. Louis area was at 5.5 percent in February, which is down from 7.5 percent in the same month last year, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. According to the most recent wage data available, wages in St. Charles County increased 4.8 percent in September compared to the year before, and they were up 3.7 percent in St. Louis County. The national average was 2.9 percent growth.

The year before, wages has dipped by 0.6 percent.

Across the St. Louis metropolitan statistical area, the average weekly paycheck in September climbed 3.2 percent from a year earlier.
