Springfield’s St. John’s Hospital was named one of the Top 100 hospitals in the United States by Solucient, a health-care information provider. According to a March 22 news release from St. John’s, the award recognizes hospitals that have achieved excellence in quality of care, operational efficiency, financial performance and adaptation to the environment. This is the third time St. John’s has been recognized as a Top 100 hospital. “Our physicians and co-workers have worked well together to make us a top-performing hospital,” said St. John’s Hospital President Rob Brodhead, in the release. “As part of a larger integrated health system, the hospital works closely with St. John’s Clinic and St. John’s Health Plans to provide high-quality care to patients with particular concern for people who are economically poor. This partnership approach has enabled the hospital to serve the community at a high level indicative of Top 100 status.” Dr. Donald Wantuck, St. John’s chief of medical staff, said teamwork is important. “I think clinical care is the focus, and we have truly a multidisciplinary approach with each patient,” he said. “Physicians, nurses, therapists and caregivers of all kinds work well together.” St. John’s has a state designated Level I trauma center for pediatric and adult patients and is one of three stroke centers in Missouri to receive a certificate of distinction from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Solucient’s “100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success” study was published in February in a special supplement to Modern Healthcare magazine.
