St. John’s presents diabetes fair Jan. 7

Posted online
A diabetes awareness fair, featuring risk assessments, blood sugar screenings and informational booths, will be held 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Jan. 7 at Battlefield Mall.

The continued increase of obesity could be evidence that a diabetes epidemic is on the way, according to a news release from St. John’s, which is presenting the event.

While early detection and treatment of diabetes can improve outcomes, one third of people with the disease are undiagnosed.

St. John’s Health System Preventive Health Guidelines follow American Diabetes Association guidelines that recommend blood glucose testing once every three years for men and women ages 45 and older.
