St. John’s Whiteside Medical Building and the neighboring cancer center have been joined with a connecting structure. Renovations also were completed on the cancer center’s interior.
Work was completed in March, according to St. John’s spokeswoman Cora Scott, and the health system is marking the building’s completion this week to coincide with Cancer Awareness Month. Staff members will provide public tours of the building, 2055 S. Fremont Ave., 3:30–5 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a free cancer education program 6–8 p.m.
With the added room, oncologists, hematologists and other specialty physicians have more office space, and rooms have been created for patients to spend time in while undergoing chemotherapy, Scott said.
St. John’s Breast Center also has relocated to the new facility. Services provided there include screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds, stereotactic procedures, breast self-examination instruction, multispecialty treatment planning and consultation, presurgery classes, counseling and support groups, follow-up care, referral for participation in clinical trials and mastectomy products.
An estimated cost of the center’s expansion was not immediately available.
