St. John's Health System held an open house for its new intermediate care unit, part of its new Children's Hospital, in November. The St. John's Children's Hospital comprises the general pediatrics floor, pediatric intensive care unit, intermediate unit and pediatric outpatient unit, serving patients newborn to 21 years of age.

The Children's Hospital program is "very family focused," Johnson said. When treating a child, "it's not just a patient, it's a family," she said. The goal of the St. John's program is "to provide comprehensive care" for pediatric patients through its staff of pediatric intensivists, Johnson added.
