St. John’s begins move to new patient tower

Posted online
St. John’s patients Tuesday began moving into the new tower that, when finished, will increase the hospital’s capacity by 110 beds.

The hospital’s transitional care unit is moving to the new tower’s eighth floor, which is complete. Construction of the remaining seven floors will be finished early next year, and a grand opening is set for February.

The $101 million, 350,000-square-foot tower, for which construction began in 2004, will have office space, community areas and conference rooms, and it will connect to the existing hospital by a central atrium. It will serve as St. John’s main entrance.

The project is a joint effort between general contractors DeWitt & Associates and Kansas City-based JE Dunn Construction Co. St. Louis firms Christner Inc. and Alper Audi are the architect and structural engineer, respectively.
