Amid a labor shortage, St. Charles County plans to invest around $518,000 on hiring temporary 911 dispatchers.
County officials said the plan to hire out-of-state contract dispatchers is a "stop-gap measure."
“We are just in a bad situation right now and are trying to think outside of the box about what we can do,” said Jeff Smith, director of St. Charles County’s 911 center.
