SPS graduates accept $22.4M in scholarships

Springfield Public Schools graduates have secured $22.4 million in college scholarship earnings going into the fall semester. Central High School led the way in scholarship dollars, but more Kickapoo High students accepted scholarship offers.

The scholarships were spread between 523 of the district’s 1,560 graduates May 7-8, according to a news release. The average scholarship awarded is $42,869.

At the school just west of Drury University, 134 Central students accepted $8.3 million. By scholarship value, the rankings among the district’s six high schools were:
  • Central, $8.3 million, 134 students;
  • Kickapoo, $5.8 million, 142 students;
  • Glendale, $4 million, 108 students
  • Parkview, $3.2 milloin, 95 students;
  • Hillcrest, $1.2 million, 43 students; and
  • Study Alternative School, $1,000, one student.
Throughout the district, 667 students qualified for Missouri A+ scholarships. If accepted, the students would receive another $5.2 million in combined aid for technical and community colleges, said SPS spokeswoman Pam Bodine.
