SPS foundation awards $200K

Posted online
The Foundation for Springfield Public Schools yesterday awarded a $208,587 donation to the district.

The foundation's annual back-to-school grants are earmarked to fund science, technology, engineering and match projects, as well as those geared toward literacy, updated equipment and technology, according to a news release.

“Our recipients don’t know their projects have been funded until our volunteers show up in their classrooms with a grant check, which is exciting for the teachers and students,” foundation Development Director Natalie Murdock said in the release. "Grants were awarded in four basic areas of innovation, collaboration, engagement and School Improvement Plan grants, which are awarded to each school at $2 per student enrolled."

Additionally, five teachers representing Central, Glendale, Hillcrest, Kickapoo and Parkview high schools were awarded a $10,000 grant for collaborative efforts.

The funding is back by donations from individuals and business in the communities garnered during the summer months.

“We are so appreciative of our generous donors and for their support of providing additional learning opportunities for all students in our public schools. This donor support directly impacts every school in our district and helps to provide quality education for nearly 25,000 students,” foundation Executive Director Jana Bachus said in the release.[[In-content Ad]]
