The Springfield Public Schools Board of Education yesterday voted to award Branco Enterprises a construction and renovation project of Fremont Elementary School.
Branco’s $9.8 million bid comes in roughly $1.6 million less than the $11.4 million budget for the project. Late last month, the SPS board voted against a $12.95 million bid issued by DeWitt & Associates Inc. because it was over budget, according to
Springfield Business Journal archives.
Part of a $72 million 2013 bond initiative, the
project calls for a 55,000-square-foot addition and 20,000-square-foot renovation of the 2814 N. Fremont Ave. facility. The school would accommodate 450 students and 50 staff.
During construction, students will be relocated to the vacant Sherwood Elementary School building, 1813 S. Scenic Ave. Completion is expected by August 2016, according to a news release.[[In-content Ad]]
