Sprint Corp. demonstrated mobile network technology that reached speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second on Wednesday. According to the Kansas City Business Journal, the demonstration is part of a new product the company is rolling out in early November that will offer 50 to 60 megabits of peak speed with the prospect of that speed increasing over time.
The service will be implemented on a limited basis in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and Tampa, Fla., with further deployment to a total of about 100 markets in the next three years.
4G LTE service is the current industry standard and offers speeds of 3 to 8 megabits per second.
