Sprint lays off 452 in KC area, more coming

Overland Park, Kan.-based Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S) has laid off 452 Kansas City-area employees this month, bringing the wireless company’s total to over 900 on the year.

The cuts reported late last week are the first installment of layoffs expected for Sprint this month. Before the most recent cuts, national carrier Sprint had employed around 7,500 workers in the Kansas City area. In March, Sprint laid off 477.

Job reviews are still underway both around its headquarters and companywide. About 33,000 workers are employed by Sprint, down from 38,000 at the end of 2013, according to the Kansas City Star.
