Springfield's state-issued sales tax check falters

Posted online
The Missouri Department of Revenue issued the city of Springfield a 1 percent sales tax check this month for $2.6 million, a 25 percent decrease compared to the May 2014 figure.

The check represents sales processed by the state in April from transactions made largely in March. Sales and use tax revenues make up roughly 60 percent of Springfield’s general fund budget, according to a news release.

The May check also was below Springfield’s $2.7 million budget for the month.

However, through May, year-to-date sales tax revenue amounts to $38.4 million, 7 percent above the same time last year and 5 percent above budget, according to the release.[[In-content Ad]]
