Springfield's May sales tax check exceeds projections

Posted online
Springfield's 1 percent sales tax check for May from the Missouri Department of Revenue came in over plan, the city reports.

The May check represents $3.5 million in sales tax revenue collected in recent months. The city had budgeted $2.4 million for the month - flat from its May 2013 collections - but the total came in 47 percent above expectations, according to a news release.

Through May, general sales tax revenue for the city totals $35.8 million, up approximately 3.8 percent from $34.5 million at the same time last fiscal year.

Springfield officials had projected to be at $35.7 million through this month.
