Springfield’s Bentley receives Award of Distinction

Roseann Bentley, a Greene County commissioner for the 2nd District and former state senator, was honored Sept. 26 with the Missouri Women’s Council’s Award of Distinction.

The council presented the award at the 2006 Governor’s Conference on Economic Development in St. Louis.

Bentley, who is from Springfield, was chair of the Senate’s education committee and a member of its appropriations committee. Her tenure was highlighted by the passage of legislation that included major childhood education programs, adoption and foster care reform and health care initiatives.

Bentley also has served as chair of Missouri’s Children’s Services Commission, a member of the Springfield Public Schools board for nine years, a member of the Missouri State University Board of Governors for nine years, and president of the National Association of Schools Boards.

The Women’s Council is an agency within the Department of Economic Development.
