Springfield's April sales tax collections down 12%

The city of Springfield's latest 1 percent sales tax check from the Missouri Department of Revenue totaled $3.3 million.

The April check represents a 12 percent decrease compared to collections of $3.7 million in the same month of 2012, according to data provided by the city.

Through April, the city's fiscal 2013 sales tax collections are $32.1 million, compared to $33.1 million at the same time in fiscal 2012. The city will receive two more checks before the end of fiscal 2013 on June 30.

Sales tax checks from the Department of Revenue represent transactions made in previous months.
