Springfield's April sales tax check beats last year

Posted online
The city of Springfield’s 1 percent sales tax check from the Missouri Department of Revenue totaled $3.4 million in April.

Representing transactions made largely in January and February and processing in March, the latest check represents a 15 percent increase from April 2014, according to a news release.

However, this month’s check is 7 percent below the city’s expected $3.6 million.

For the fiscal year that began July 1, sales tax revenue comes to $35.8 million, 11 percent higher than a year earlier and 6 percent above the budget, according to the release.

Sales and use taxes make up roughly 60 percent of revenue for Springfield’s general fund. Sales tax revenue is a main source funding vital services, such as police and fire operations.
