Marino is owner of Greenlawn Fertilizer and has relinquished his management responsibilities there to take the trust company position. He worked part-time for several weeks with Springfield Trust Co. before starting full-time March 5.
Before acquiring Greenlawn Fertilizer about 19 years ago, Marino spent 20 years in banking with positions at Commerce Bank in Kansas City and Springfield. He has served on the trust company’s board of directors for 15 years.
“The company has grown to the point that the position was needed,” Marino said.
Springfield Trust Co. ranked No. 3 on Springfield Business Journal’s 2006 list of area’s largest trust companies, with $600 million in assets under management and 1,200 local accounts. That’s compared to assets of $520 million and 700 local accounts in 2005, according to SBJ list research.
