Owners Jackie Moore and Steve Owens have scrapped those plans due to a rush of media attention, according to Mark Harmon, marketing manager for Joplin Regional Stockyards, which owned the Springfield location. Harmon said the new owners and other anticipated changes will be revealed at an undecided date.
Meanwhile, Harmon said some buildings are being removed from the property, 1323 W. Locust St., and there are plans to move cattle to the stockyards’ Carthage facility.
The business opened in 1928 as Union Stockyards and was sold in 1984 and renamed Southwest Regional Stockyards. Moore and Owens owned the stockyards since 2000.
