Springfield station claims cheapest gas price in state

At $2.84 per gallon, the Sam's Club at 3660 E. Sunshine St. in Springfield claimed the lowest gas price in Missouri this morning.

The Show-Me State average dropped 6 cents during the past week to land at $3.02 per gallon this morning. The decrease pushed Missouri to No. 2 on GasBuddy.com's list of the lowest gas averages in the nation. Oklahoma held the top spot, at $3.01 per gallon, while Hawaii ranked last, at $3.87 per gallon. The national average was $3.30 per gallon this morning, according to GasBuddy data.

Missouri's average represents an 8-cent increase from a month ago, but remains flat from the same time last year.

After the Springfield Sam's Club, the lowest price of gas in Missouri was available this morning for $2.85 per gallon at filling stations in Excelsior Springs, Crestwood and Aurora, according to GasBuddy's MissouriGasPrices.com.

The Sam's Club at 945 W. El Camino Alto Drive had the second-lowest price for gas in Springfield this morning, at $2.94 per gallon, while other stations ranged from $3.01 per gallon to $3.06 per gallon.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil was trading at $93.96 per barrel as of 9:22 a.m., compared to $100.32 per barrel a week ago. Light sweet crude oil futures for February were trading at $94.13 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
