Springfield sales taxes climb over last year

Posted online
The city of Springfield’s 1 percent sales tax check for June from the Missouri Department of Revenue represents an 19 percent bump compared to the same month last year.

The June check, which reflects sales processed by the state in May from transactions made mostly in April, is $4.1 million, up from $3.2 million in June 2014, according to a city news release.

This latest check also was 3 percent above the city’s projection of $3.97 million for the month.

For the city’s fiscal year, which ends June 30, sales tax revenue is up 8 percent to $42.5 million. It’s also 5 percent above projections, according to the release.

Roughly 60 percent of Springfield’s general fund revenue comes from sales and use taxes.
