Springfield sales tax revenue up 3.5%

Springfield's 1 percent sales tax check from the Missouri Department of Revenue totaled $4.4 million this month, bringing fiscal 2014 year-to-date collections up 3.5 percent to $10.1 million compared to the same time a year ago.

The September check also represents a 5.8 percent increase from collections of $4.2 million in the same month of fiscal 2013. August collections were down 2 percent to $2.1 million, but Springfield started its fiscal year with a $3.6 million check in July, marking a 4.2 percent increase, according to data provided by city officials.

The city's fiscal year began July 1.
