The city of Springfield’s October general sales tax check from the Missouri Department of Revenue was almost spot on compared with budget. Reflecting sales processed by the state in September from transactions made primarily in August, the sales tax check was $3.79 million, below the budgeted amount of $3.8 million for October.

Compared with the same month last year, October receipts were up $40,069, or 1 percent.

Year to date for fiscal 2017, overall tax revenues are $15.1 million, down 3 percent compared with budget. The city’s year-to-date tax revenue collections also are down 2 percent when compared with last year.

Sales tax revenue funds core city services such as Police and Fire operations. In Springfield, roughly 60 percent of the city’s general fund revenue comes from sales and use taxes.
