The Missouri Department of Revenue issued the city of Springfield a 1 percent general sales tax check for December totaling $4.15 million and increasing year-to-date funds by 3 percent.
The check, which reflects sales processed by the state in November from transactions made in October, represents an increase of just over 1 percent compared to the December 2014 total, according to a news release.
The funding also is less than 1 percent above the city’s December projections of $4.14 million.
The latest check brings Springfield’s fiscal year collections to $22.1 million, a roughly 3 percent boost compared to the same period last year. The city’s fiscal year began July 1.
Through December, the city had projected $21.3 million in collections, which is 4 percent below the actual tax revenue distributed by the state, according to the release.
Sales taxes are the city’s primary source of revenue for vital services, including police and fire operations. Sales and use taxes make up about 60 percent of Springfield’s general fund.
