In Livability.com’s second-annual Top 100 Best Places to Live for small and midsize cities, Springfield was ranked No. 85, sandwiched between Denton, Texas, and Orlando, Fla.
Based on such factors as population, median household income and median home price, the 2015 list names Madison, Wis., as the top place to live.
With a population of 160,246, Springfield posts median household income of $33,379 and a median home price of $106,500, according to the ranking data. With Livability.com research covering demographics, economics, infrastructure, amenities and other categories, Springfield scored 613.
Columbia, the other Missouri city listed, beat out Springfield at No. 50. Led by scores in education and housing, the hometown of University of Missouri tallied 631 points.
“The best tales are told in the Main Street diners, corner churches, park benches and even the mayor’s offices of small to midsize cites and towns,” the ranking’s introduction says at Livability.com. “Far from letting time pass them by, these communities are doubling down on livability for their residents.”
