Springfield Public Schools locks in budget

The Springfield Public Schools Board of Education this week approved the 2013-14 academic year budget.

The budget includes projected total revenues of $335.3 million against expenditures of $307 million, according to a news release.

The board also approved operating expenditures of $227 million and operating revenues of $224.4 million. That's up from last year's approved budget, with operating revenues of $212.4 million and $213.4 million in expenditures.

The 2013-14 budget includes:
  • an increase of 13 teaching positions with student enrollment projected to increase by 434;
  • pay increases totaling $5.1 million; and
  • new construction of $32.3 million, a $2.5 million increase.
