Springfield Police Department phasing out sedans

Posted online

The Springfield Police Department is phasing out sedans in favor of SUVs.

That's according to a report from the Springfield News-Leader, which spoke with Maj. Vance Holland about the decision made earlier this year.

Holland said Ford stopped manufacturing the Police Interceptor sedan. Additionally, he said Ford Police Interceptor SUVs provide more visibility and room for gear.

The department's fleet could comprise only SUVs as early as 2023. The sedans will continue to be used until they wear down.
