Springfield Opera changes director’s position

Posted online
The Springfield Opera Board of Directors announced it will replace the opera’s full-time executive director position with a part-time contracted artistic director position to cut costs.

Executive Director Dr. Janice Fulbright will fill the new position. She joined the opera staff in 2004.

“These measures are part of our focus on ensuring the opera can continue to operate without accruing further financial debt,” said Dr. Galen Hasler, board president, in a news release. “History has shown us that we simply cannot afford a full-time director in this current economic climate, and we are striving to be financially accountable.”

The board also has plans to research partnerships with other agencies and art organizations as part of its financial restructuring.

Fulbright has a doctorate in conducting and musicology from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. She earned a Master of Music in voice performance from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Music in music education from the University of Georgia.
