Springfield nabs Special Olympics games through 2011

Springfield has been selected as the home for Special Olympics Missouri’s annual Summer Games for the next four years.

The State Summer Games – the program’s largest event – will be at Missouri State University through 2011. Next year, the event is scheduled for May 28–30.

The games are expected to draw about 2,000 athletes and coaches from across the state, according to the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau. Competitions will be in aquatics, bocce, power-lifting, track and field, and soccer.
