The Springfield metropolitan statistical area recorded a higher unemployment rate in June, as did the rest of the state's metro areas.
The Queen City's unemployment rate was 3.6%, up from 3.3% in May, according to a news release. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data is not seasonally adjusted.
The state's metro areas, by June unemployment rate, are as follows:
• Jefferson City, 3.2%, up from 2.9% in May
• Columbia, 3.6%, up from 3.1%
• Springfield, 3.6%, up from 3.3%
• Cape Girardeau, 3.7%, up from 3.4%
• Kansas City, 3.7%, up from 3.5%
• Joplin, 3.8%, up from 3.4%
• St. Louis, 3.8%, up from 3.6%
• St. Joseph, 4%, up from 3.5%
Compared with a year prior, June's unemployment rates were higher in 184, lower in 178 and unchanged in 25 metro areas, according to the release. The Springfield MSA's June 2025 unemployment rate was 4.1%.
